Jack Vanderpool's Professional Guide Services
About Fishing Experience
I have a 23 foot deck boat that has been changed into a fishing boat by taking out
some seats and stuff and adding rod holders and a bait tank. The bait tank is the
white tank in front of windshield that keeps a bait fish called "gizzard shad" alive. I
have had them alive for 3 days and then they were still alive and let go. I use a
special reel that has a line counter on them that lets you know exactly how deep
the fishing hook with the shad on it is.
I use a remote control to operate the trolling motor. This keeps me out of the way
of the people catching fish. I can operate the motor from anywhere on the boat or
on the shore if I wanted. I also has a auto pilot which lets me point the boat in any
direction and it will automatically keep the boat in that direction while traveling at
any speed I choose. Lastly I have another little computer-like device called a "fish
activator" It has 7 different gizzard shad sounds that it emits into the water through
small speaker attached to speaker wires that I let down into the water as deep as
20 feet. The sounds for example can be a distressed shad, normal shad, shad
being eaten, etc. I can custom design a program using all or one with each sound
having a delay between them for whatever a choose. Years of technology and
experimenting went in this device. I am lucky to have one of the few. They won't
allow the use of this device in any tournament action. This pretty well wraps up the
boat and equipment. I have found that most people can't or won't learn to use such
equipment for what ever reason. Equipment is fun and enhances the chances of
success but the human element is still the most important. Hope you enjoy!
Remote control, that allows me to
operate the boat from anywhere
within the 100 meter radius.
My boat is equipped with two GPS
systems, Lowrance HDS 10 and
the Minn-Koto trolling motor.

I have a Lowrance HDS-10 sonar unit with gps(global satellite positioning) It has
an 11 inch colored screen. It allows me to look at what is between the bottom of
the boat and the bottom of the lake. This tells me how deep the water is, what kind
of structure is in the water (trees, rocks, dead bodies, etc.) (Seriously, the US
Coast Guard used this device to locate sunken boats and victims). I have learned
that by adjusting the color sensitivity I can most of time identify the kind of fish I am
looking for. It also tells me the water temperature. It has a menu button like a
computer ( that is what it is with 20GB of hard drive) that allows me to switch to the
GPS mode. This tells me where I am on the lake. I purchase software that gives
me a map of all the lakes in Missouri and 4 other surrounding states. Because
hybrid stripped bass are territorial ( likes to stay in same area to eat ) when I find a
big school of them I can mark them on the map (called a way point) and come
back whenever, hours or years later and locate the exact spot. I has many features
to many to mention but it also has a "pages" button that allows me to look at both
screens, sonar and map, at the same time. The outboard motor is a Yamaha 150
horse 4 stroke engine. Four stroke meaning it doesn't require the mixing of
gasoline with oil. It is very quiet and fuel efficient for its' size. When I have located
the fish and shut off the outboard and use a GPS conrolled electric trolling motor
powered by two 12 volt batteries. It can operate for many hours without charging, at
least all day.
